5 reasons I know God’s real

I confess: as a lifelong believer in God, thoughts of unbelief invade my mind now and again. They come alone, as fugitives, climbing into my pysche to hide. They’ll burrow themselves deep, if they’re not caught.

Why do our minds teeter towards unbelief?

We do not believe because we cannot see, yet everything we do see points to the truth and existence of God.

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Romans 1:20

There’s physical evidence of God all around us, infinitely more than that to disprove Him. (Just look at us!) There’s scientific evidence. There’s historical accounts and basic reasoning that support the God of the Bible.

Yet even with an abundance of intellectual and obvious evidence, belief in God requires faith.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Faith: we all have it. You have faith that you are going to wake up in the morning as you close your eyes before bed each night. Perhaps you have faith in who you are and what you bring to your respective tables. In other words: you have confidence. You are confident in who you are just as you are confident you’ll wake up tomorrow.

Even atheists have faith. They have faith, or are confident, that God does not exist.

Faith is just confidence in what you cannot see.

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Faith in God teaches you to see the invisible. Unbelief causes you to go blind.

God opened my blind eyes one night and I saw into the invisible. It’s eyes gaped back at me—not with emptiness—but filled, brimming with hatred. A black ocean, a starless abyss; sunken, swimming black pools. Endless, unhinged torment salivating to swallow me and everyone in the room whole. I am fully convinced it’s only great desire was to see each of us suffer the same excruciating fate as itself: total separation from God. Death. Despair. Pain. Emptiness. Hatred.

I believe in God, because God blessed me with a believing heart. I believe because there is ample evidence for the truth of God’s Word and the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

But this is how I know God is real: because God showed me the invisible world. Because the demons fled in Jesus name. Because I was in bondage to anxiety, depression, and addiction but He healed me and set me free. I know because He and I talk daily. I know, because I’ve seen.

These testimonies I carry with me, I tie them around my waist as I fight the good fight of faith. They extinguish my unbelief.

I hope this encourages you in your journey with God. I’d love to hear from you. Please reach out with any comments or questions about my experiences or your own. Thank you so much for reading. I really appreciate you.
